This style is originally derived from a 14th century latchet shoe from northern Europe, the Mary Rose was one of many styles found in the wreck of the Mary Rose ship, commissioned by Henry VIII; sunk by the French near the Portsmouth Harbor in 1545. Typical Mary Rose styles were popular in the mid- 1600’s and included (lace )latchet, button and buckle styles. Earlier versions used a lace, toggle or button to close the instep strap. Made in bullhide leather with a cushion midsole and durable outsole, and traditional square toe. Also available in round toe.
Mary Rose style was worn across many classes from workers to royalty. The later Tudor and Elizabethan styles incorporated slashes.Sizes 7-13, Lace or Button
